By IANS,

New Delhi : Congress MP and former minster Shashi Tharoor Friday described the end of the Left Front rule in West Bengal as a traffic light that was red for 34 years turning green.

“The one traffic light in the world that was red for 34 years, just turned green in Bengal,” Tharoor tweeted soon after the outcome of the West Bengal assembly elections became clear.

The Communists are identified with red as that is the colour as their flag.

The Left Front government in West Bengal, headed by Communist Party of India-Marxist, has been ruling the state for the past 34 years.

The Trinamool Congress, which is set to sweep the polls in West Bengal along with Congress, has the colour green in its election symbol.
