Mumbai : Mumbai Indians captain Sachin Tendulkar says it is important for the team to get back to its winning ways ahead of the top four play-offs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting May 24.
The business end of the fourth IPL season is fast approaching with the form of Mumbai Indians dipping a bit. The shock loss to Deccan Chargers here Saturday was their second in a row though they are almost through to the play-offs.
Tendulkar stressed on the need for winning the remaining two league matches and gaining momentum for the knock-out stage.
“In this (T20) format, anything is possible. We were doing well but we have had a couple of difficult games. We need to go through this obstacle and stay tighter. It is good to have a bad game now than in the knock-out phase,” said Tendulkar.
Mumbai Indians conceded 30 runs off the last 10 balls with Chargers ending at 135 for six in 20 overs. Tendulkar pointed out that the late flourish by the Chargers was one of the reasons they ended up on the losing side.
“I thought we had controlled the game till the 19th over of the Deccan innings. Too many dot balls in the batting as well. The ball was gripping quite a bit, not to our liking. It was stopping and coming. We used up a lot of balls and also lost wickets, it was a slow but certain death I felt,” he said.
