Ranchi : Maoist guerrillas killed five people suspecting them to be members of a rival rebel group in Jharkhand’s Gumla district, police said Sunday.
According to police, around 25 members of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) late Saturday night raided Lomki village situated under Raidih police station of Gumla district, around 140 km from Ranchi. The CPI-Maoist members went to a marriage party in the village and killed five people suspecting them to be members of the rival People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI).
Two of the five people they killed had arrived in the village from Punjab to attend the marriage.
“It seems that CPI-Maoist killed five people suspecting them to be members of PLFI. CPI-Maoist and PLFI are involved in a fratricidal war for many years over supremacy in the state,” a police spokesperson told IANS.
Senior police officials reached to village Sunday morning. Police suspect that more people could be killed in retaliatory attacks. Additional police forces have been deployed in villages in the area.
