Three dead, stop violence, CPI-M urges Trinamool

New Delhi : The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Monday urged West Bengal’s administration to check attacks on Left cadres following elections, saying three people had already been killed.

CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat told a news conference that there had been “widespread attacks” on the CPI-M and other Left Front partners in different parts of the state.

“Offices of the CPI-M and Left Front have been targeted, some have been occupied. Cadres are being physically attacked.”

He said since Friday’s election results that brought the Trinamool Congress to power, ending 34 years of Left rule, three Left supporters had been murdered — in West Midnapore, Bankura and Burdwan.

He called upon the state administration to stop the attacks, and the Trinamool Congress leadership not to indulge in violence.
