World not buying Pakistan’s bellicosity: Congress

By IANS,

New Delhi: The Congress Monday slammed Pakistan for its “fluster, bellicosity and brazenness” in threatening a reprisal attack on India if an operation is attempted similar to the one by the US to eliminate Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Landen in Abbottabad.

Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari, at his daily briefing, said Pakistan had a lot of explaining to do.

“I think Pakistan, in the aftermath of Abbottabad, has a lot of explaining to do, not only to the US but to a large number of countries who have been victims of terror in the last two decades,” Tewari said when asked for comments on Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence chief Lieutenant General Ahmed Shuja Pasha’s remarks Sunday.

“Rather than attempting to focus on setting things right, if somebody feels they can get away from fluster, bellicosity and brazenness, then I am afraid that they learn to their peril that the world is not buying this bellicosity,” he said.

Pasha had warned that any Abbottabad-like attack by India would invite a fitting response as targets inside India had been “identified” and “rehearsals” carried out.

A day after Pasha’s threat, India’s security establishment, led by its prime minister, carried out a fresh assessment of the security situation arising out of threats posed by Pakistan in the backdrop of bin Laden’s killing inside Pakistan May 2.
