New Delhi : Out of power in West Bengal and Kerala, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has asked its leaders and units in the two states not to air their differences in public.
Informed sources said the direction came at Monday’s meeting of the politburo.
The move follows former West Bengal minister Razzak Molla allegation that politburo member Nirupam Sen and the state leadership were to blame for the Left Front’s debacle in the state.
In Kerala too, there have been a flood of media reports – attributed to party leaders – that outgoing chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan suspected the rival group led by state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan for the loss of some key seats — which led the Left to lose the elections narrowly.
Party general secretary Prakash Karat has already denied reports of differences within the party over the electoral debacle that ended 34 long years of Marxist rule in West Bengal.
The CPI-M Central Committee will meet in Hyderabad June 11-12 to discuss the electoral losses in detail.
The politburo is learnt to have decided to make Achuthanandan and Suryakant Mishra the opposition leaders in the Kerala and West Bengal assemblies respectively.
