Kolkata : Days after its rout in the state assembly polls, West Bengal’s opposition Left Front Tuesday launched its first attack on the Trinamool Congress-led dispensation that is set to take charge Friday, alleging that democracy and democratic rights were under violent attack after the change of regime.
Briefing reporters after a meeting of Left Front partners, Front chairman Biman Bose accused the “new government” of not keeping its election pledge “We want change, and not revenge”.
“Violence is on against us. Attacks are on. They are being carried out in different forms in different districts. Democracy and democratic rights are under attack. Our party office, trade union offices and student union officers are also under attack,” he said.
Bose said a Left Front delegation had met Governor M.K. Narayanan Monday and urged him to take steps to stop the attacks on Left cadres. “However, as per reports received so far, nothing has been done”.
