Pakistan must provide answers to Headley’s revelations: Congress

By IANS,

New Delhi: The Congress Tuesday said revelations from the Chicago trial of 26/11 Mumbai attack co-accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana had cast a “heavy responsibility” on Pakistan to provide answers about involvement of state players in the terror attack.

“Undoubtedly, the events played out in Pakistan in the past couple of weeks and revelations from the Chicago trial do cast heavy responsibility on Pakistan to provide answer not only to India but the world community about involvement of state instrumentalities,” Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said.

Tewari said with more revelations emerging, Pakistan should not obfuscate issues.

“It will be far more appropriate if Pakistan provides answers,” he said.

Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley Monday told a US court, where Rana’s trial is underway, that Pakistan’s spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence, had a role in the 26/11 Mumbai carnage in which more than 160 people were killed.

Asked about speculation in the wake of terror attack on a naval base in Karachi about Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal falling in wrong hands, Tewari said such issues were “very sensitive”.

“Such issues cannot be discussed through the press,” he said, adding the Karachi incident raised some questions.

At least 14 people including four terrorists were killed in terror attack on Pakistan Navy’s airbase in the Pakistani port city that ended Monday.

Asked about BJP’s stance about a call to denuclearise Pakistan, Tewari said certain matters were in the domain of the government and unsolicited advice should not be given.
