Monte Carlo (Monaco): Force India’s Adrian Sutil showed promise ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix by finishing eighth in the opening practice session here Thursday.
Sutil recorded a time of 1 min 18.578 seconds, ahead of Renault’s Vitaly Petrov (1:18.733) and Mercedes’ Michael Schumacher (1:18.805). Force India’s second driver Paul di Resta (1:21.548) took it easy on the 3.6 km street circuit and finished 21st. The Vijay Mallya outfit has not earned a point in the last three races and are looking to make the most of the Saturday’s qualifying with overtaking being a tough proposition on the narrow track.
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel (1:16.619), who is on a roll winning four of the five races so far, pipped Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso(1:16.732) for the fastest time followed by Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg (1:17.139). Mark Webber, last year’s winner from pole position, stopped after three slow laps owing to gearbox problems.
India’s Narain Karthikeyan (1:23.885) in his Hispania recorded the slowest time, behind his team mate Vitantonio Liuzzi (1:22.840), who spun his car after water leaked on the track from the pit lane, resulting in a 10 minute interruption.
