Bengaluru: PDP chairman Abdunnasir Maudany, in jail in connection with the 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts, was yesterday taken to a hospital and returned back to jail without giving any treatment, according to reports. Maudany was taken to a private hospital in Bengaluru on Thursday but had to be returned without any treatment reportedly since no reservation or booking was made earlier.
Maudany was taken to the hospital which is 60 kms away from Bengaluru without making any booking, reservation or any other facilities with the hospital and doctors. It is also said that the state Home ministry has not made any payment for the treatment. Maudany was taken to the hospital by the special investigation team, without informing his lawyers or family. Meanwhile, appointment has been taken for Maudany’s treatment on June 7.
In his interim plea for bail submitted at the Supreme Court, Maudany had requested for bail stating his poor health conditions. While, the prosecution explained it was dangerous to grant bail for Maudany and added that it would provide him treatment being in jail itself.
Prior to his arrest in 2010, Maudany had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode district. As per the court’s instructions, the Karnataka government will have to provide Ayurveda treatment for Maudany in Bengaluru itself. The Ayurveda treatment led by Malayali doctors in the private hospital in Bengaluru would long for 21 to 28 days and would cost Rs 8000 – 10,000 a day. The state home ministry should provide this fund, but no arrangements have been made for the funds so far, according to reports.
Meanwhile, it is also said that taking Maudany to the hospital without making any arrangements was a farce to show off that the prosecution was providing medical treatment. Maudany has reportedly been advised complete rest by doctors due to his several illnesses. Despite his being suffering from back pain and diabetes-related illnesses, Maudany was taken to the hospital which 60 kms away without making any arrangements for treatment, complained Muhammed Rajeeb, PDP state secretary.
Maudany, 31st accused in the 2008 Bengaluru blast case, was arrested by the Karnataka police from Kerala in August 2010, after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by several courts. His was arrested when he was on his way to surrender in court and just before the Supreme Court was to consider his anticipatory bail plea. After 10 days in police custody, Maudany was sent to the Parappana Agrahara Central jail on judicial custody which has been extended ever since. His bail plea was rejected by the Karnataka High Court which prompted him to approach the Supreme Court in February this year. As the first division bench which considered the plea was divided over granting him bail, the plea has been transferred to another bench. The division bench postponed the plea to August 3 when it was considered early this month, while directing the Karnataka government to provide the necessary medical treatment for Maudany.
