Challenging Pakistan’s sovereignty was unacceptable, Clinton told

By IANS,

Islamabad: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been conveyed that it was unacceptable for Pakistan to allow any one to challenge the country’s sovereignty, a senior federal minister has said.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan said she made it clear to Clinton that if the US fails to respect the Pakistani parliament’s resolution on stopping of drone attacks, the government will have to devise a new strategy to protect its national interest, the Pakistan Press International (PPI) news agency reported.

Awan said it was the responsibility of the government to convey to the US the sentiments of the people of Pakistan.

She reiterated that the parliament resolution indicated that if drone attacks continue in the country’s tribal region, Pakistan will have to re-visit its engagement with the US.

She said that along with parliament, all political parties were unanimous that the continuation of drone attacks will affect Pakistan-US relations.
