Delhi government submits response to Shunglu panel report

New Delhi: The Delhi government Saturday sent its detailed response to the union home ministry on the allegations, delays and irregularities in Commonwealth Games (CWG) projects cited by the V.K.Shunglu panel, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said.

“We have sent our response on the Shunglu Committee report to the home ministry,” Dikshit told reporters on a sidelines of a function.

According to Delhi government sources, the 1,000-page report prepared by a committee of senior bureaucrats constituted by Dikshit has given a paragraph-wise response to the observations made by the Shunglu Committee.

The Shunglu Committee was appointed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in October 2010 to probe the alleged bungling in the Games.

Shunglu, a former comptroller and auditor general (CAG), raised queries on works done by departments controlled by the Delhi government and submitted reports on the Games Village and on the city’s infrastructure development for the CWG event. The panel primarily blamed Dikshit and Delhi Lt. Governor Tejendra Khanna.

The committee report on city infrastructure was referred to the home ministry by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for appropriate action.
