Kolkata: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Tuesday mocked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s promise of ushering in an “industrial revolution” and said projects announced by her would fail to take off similar to the railway projects announced by her as union minister.
“The announcement of ushering in an industrial revolution in the state is an announcement which sounds like old wine in new bottle. The chief minister has decided to transform Bengal into Britain by ushering in an industrial revolution,” said an editorial in the CPI-M mouthpiece Ganashakti.
Last week Banerjee has called for an “industrial revolution” in West Bengal and announced that the railways have expressed their desire to set up an industrial unit at the site of the now-abandoned Tata Motors factory in Hooghly’s Singur town.
“During Banerjee’s tenure as railway minister she had laid the foundation stone for 16 factories. The work for these factories has not yet started because of poor financial condition. How will they construct this new Metro coach factory nobody knows,” said the editorial.
She said that a Metro coach factory will come up in the 600 acres of land in Singur. A debate was going on in court regarding the possession of the land. After how many years the verdict will come, nobody knows, said the mouthpiece.
Tata Motors Monday got permission from the high court to file an appeal before it against its earlier ruling that the government’s move to return the acquired Singur land to owner farmers was valid.
“The projects that Banerjee is boasting about in order to usher in the industrial revolution, are mostly railway projects that means Banerjee herself doesn’t have any faith on her government,” said the editorial.
