Yeddyurappa gets bail in one case

By IANS,

Bangalore: Former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, arrested in two corruption cases, Thursday got a bail in one case. A ruling in the second case is likely later Thursday.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, arrested Oct 15, will be out of Bangalore’s central jail in the Parappana Agrahara suburb if the high court also grants bail in the second case.

Justice B.V. Pinto of the high court granted bail in one case on the condition that Yeddyurappa not tamper with evidence and furnish a bond for Rs. 500,000 and two sureties for the same amount.

The BJP’s first chief minister in the state is facing five complaints of corruption and illegal land deals. The five complaints comprise 15 instances of corruption and illegal land deals. They are bunched into five cases in two of which he has been arrested.

He has sought anticipatory bail in the three other cases.

Yeddyurappa has been in jail since Oct 19, after spending three days in two hospitals in Bangalore.

He was arrested Oct 15 after the Lokayukta (ombudsman) court judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao, hearing the cases, rejected his bail plea.
