Ojha’s double strike restricts Windies to 69/2

New Delhi : A double strike by left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha restricted the West Indies to 69 for two in their first innings at lunch on the first day of the first Test against India at the Ferozeshah Kotla Sunday.

Kraigg Brathwaite was batting on 29 and Darren Bravo 10 at the break.

West Indies skipper Darren Sammy had no hesitation to bat after winning the toss. Openers Brathwaite and Kieran Powell (14) carefully saw off the first nine overs of pace but the introduction of spin in the 10th over with Ojha invited trouble for them.

Ojha dropped an easy return catch from Powell in his first over but atoned for it by trapping the left-handed batsman leg-before in his next over.

Ojha, who is spearheading the spin attack in the absence of out-of form Harbhajan Singh, bowled cleverly and kept the West Indies batsmen guessing. He foxed Kirk Edwards (15) with his flight only to take a good return catch in the 24th over. Ojha finished with figures of two for 14 from his 10 overs that also included five maidens.

Pacer Umesh Yadav and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made their Test debuts. Yadav bowled a tight spell of four overs conceding just seven runs but Ashwin was far from being impressive.
