FMSCI not to be blamed for Buddh Circuit’s lockdown: Chandhok

By IANS,

Chennai : The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) has nothing to do with the decision of the owners of the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) to close the track for “maintenance”, asserted the governing body’s president Vicky Chandhok.

The lockdown of the BIC that recently hosted the inaugural Formula One Indian Grand Prix, has resulted in shifting of the concluding rounds of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship, the Volkswagen Polo R Cup and also the JK Tyre Formula Asia Racing Championship series, scheduled for Nov 26-27, to Chennai.

Speaking to IANS Wednesday, Chandhok said: “It is wrong to blame the FMSCI who have nothing to do with the track. If the owners decide to close the track for whatever reason, then there is not much anyone can do.

“As regards the shifting of the JK Tyre event, the official calendar clearly says BIC or MMRT (Madras Motor Race Trust). So, it was advisable to wait for an official confirmation before making plans.”

Chandhok confirmed that the FIA Congress followed by the prize-distribution function will be held as scheduled in New Delhi Dec 5-9.

The showpiece would be the awards ceremony where the World champions in various FIA disciplines will be felicitated.
