Congress slams BJP for parliament disruption

By IANS,

Chennai : The Congress Tuesday slammed the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for disrupting parliament on the first day of the winter session to press its demand for resignation of Home Minister P. Chidambaram for his alleged role in the 2G spectrum scam, and said it was indulging in “witch hunt”.

“The Congress party deprecates, condemns in the strongest possible words the utterly irresponsible behaviour of the BJP-led opposition in disrupting parliament yet again from the word go from day one,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters here.

“…the BJP believes in starting destructive disruption on one pretence or the other. Each time the excuse may vary but the intention and the result is the same,” he added.

He also slammed the BJP’s decision to boycott Chidambaram in parliament.

“Can the opposition say tomorrow that because they don’t agree with the government, so unless it resigns they won’t allow parliament to function?” he asked.

Singhvi said the BJP was “indulging in witch hunt” on the 2G spectrum issue.

On the issue of the boycott by the Congress of former defence minister George Fernandes during the National Democratic Alliance regime, Singhvi said the BJP was suffering from amnesia.

“George Fernandes resigned and was subject to a commission of enquiry started by that government after his own residence was filmed on candid camera, finding people discussing defence deals and commissions,” Singhvi said.
