Ranchi : Railway services were affected for four hours in the Jamshedpur region of Jharkhand as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers enforced a blockade to demand resumption of night trains in the area.
Hundreds of BJP activists, under the leadership of state unit president Dineshanand Goswami, sat on the railway track near Tatanagar station and blocked movement of goods trains.
The BJP workers blocked the movement of goods trains in more than dozen stations of the East and West Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharswan districts.
Talking to reporters, Goswami said: “Train movements are taking place in terrorist-affected areas, then why railway authorities are not taking steps to resume night train services. The state government is ready to prove security railway to resume night services.”
Night trains were halted on Kharagpur-Tata-Rourkela route last May after Jnaneshwari train accident in which 148 passengers were killed after Maoists removed the fish plates of the rail tracks.
