AMU Off-Campus in Kishanganj: Mass movement from 12th October

By TCN Special Correspondent,

New Delhi: Several political leders from Bihar, social activists, academicians came together on one platform yesterday and demanded from the Nitish Kumar led Bihar government to immediately establish the AMU Off Campus in Kishanganj. They also warned the government, that a mass movement will be launched from 12th October, if the state government doesn’t act on its long pending promise.

“The AMU centre in Kishanganj is the right of people of Bihar and no government can stop it,” said supremo of Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) and former Chief Minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav. Lending his full support, he said, “It is my cause and I assure you my complete support for the same.”

Mr. Prasad was speaking in the “National Conference for the establishment of AMU Study Centre in Kishanganj, Bihar”, here at India Islamic Cultural Centre in Lodhi Road, New Delhi on Friday late evening.

He further said, “It is the duty of the state government to provide land for the centre and stop playing administrative gimmick.” He emphasized for a mass movement in Bihar’s capital Patna.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Prof. P K Abdul Azis ensured his full cooperation and commitment for the establishment of AMU Centre in Kishanganj.

Prof. Azis, whose term of VC-ship is getting over in January said, “It is my heartiest desire to see AMU centre in Kishanganj in my own term”. He further said, “I am trying my best for and will keep trying till last.”

It can be noted that the proposed centre is getting delayed for past three years due to alleged negligence of Bihar government. Bihar government has made repeated claims of offering the required 250 acres of land to AMU administration. However, the fact is that the land is in three pieces; water logged and illegally encroached by tribals on the guidelines of some local politicians.

The AMU VC, however, is demanding the land as per the University rules that says the 250 acres land should be in one piece, controversy free and have 30 feet wide road connecting with state or national highway.

Leaders of different political parties, Kamal Farooqui, Secretary, Samajwadi Party, Ashfaq Kareem, National Vice President, Lok Janshakti Party, Dr. Shakeel Ahmad of Indian National Congress and office bearers of various organizations have also offered their support on behalf of their respective parties.

The national conference, which was organized by AMU Kishanganj Centre Coordination Committee Delhi to gather the support of national political leaders, journalists, academician and members of civil society, was attended by more than 500 hundred people across the nation.

A call for a mass movement, under the leadership of Maulana Asrarul Haq Qasmi, MP Kishanganj has been given from 12th October, which will be a democratic agitation against the Bihar Government for the establishment of AMU Centre Kishanganj.
