Ahmadabad: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Saiyad Imam is observing Sadbhavana fast today here at Gandhi Ashram to make people aware of Gandhi’s message of communal harmony and his philosophy of non-violence. At this occasion he remembered the victims of 2002 Gujarat riots.
Saiyad Imam Shahi Saiyad is the same person who offered skullcap to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi during his 3-day Sadbhavana fast last month which Modi refused to wear.
He is from Thasra in Kheda district of Gujarat. He is Sajjadanashin (head) at Khanqh-e-Imamshahi Dargah in Rustampura. He termed the refusal of Modi as an “insult of Islam.” It’s only after Modi’s refusal to wear the cap, that Imam had announced that he would observe fast for communal harmony.
Recently, he claimed that after the incident he has been threatened for his anti-Modi remarks and sent an application to the police to provide him security.
