Patna: A state-level Urdu Bachao Conference (Save Urdu Conference) is going to be organized on 9th October in the state capital Patna to pressurize the JDU-led NDA government of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to give the Urdu language its due space and status as the second official language of the state.
The conference to be organized by Danish Markaz, a registered organization devoted for the promotion of Urdu language, will put a charter of demands before the state government. The conference will also urge the Urdu speakers to come out and do their bid if they want to save the language.

The conference will be presided over by eminent Urdu writer and academician Prof Wahab Ashrafi while former Bihar chief minister Dr Jagannath Mishra will be the Chief Guest. It was Mishra’s government of Congress in the 1980s which had accorded Urdu the status of second official language of the state. But in next three decades, the language could not enjoy the status fully as it mostly remained on paper.
The conference will put a charter of demands before the state government. The demands are:
*Compulsory education of Urdu in school, college and university
*Constitution of Urdu Commission for development of Urdu
*Nameplates of officers in government offices in Urdu along with Hindi
*Names of roads, institutions, parks and public places in Urdu along with Hindi
*Promotion of officers of Urdu in the Department of Raj Bhasha
*Recruitment of Urdu translators, assistant Urdu translators, typists and teachers in Dept of Raj Bhasha and schools
*Publication of district and state gazettes in Urdu also and government notification, circular and orders in Urdu along with Hindi
*Make Urdu an official language of the state Legislative Assembly
*Increase in increment of Urdu-knowing non-Urdu officers
*Urdu cell in all government departments
The conference will also put some demands before the Urdu speakers as only government cannot save the language. The demands are:
*Teach your children Urdu
*Prefer Urdu for elementary education of your children
*Subscribe an Urdu newspaper and magazine to read
*Put signboard of your shop, nameplates at homes in Urdu

The Keynote address of the conference will be delivered by Dr Syed Shah Shamimuddin Ahmed Munami, Sajjada Nasheen, Khanqah Munamiya, Mittan Ghat, Patna City.
Guests of Honor are Maulana Syed Nizamuddin, Amir Shariat, Husn Ahmed Qadri, General Secretary, Jamiat Ulama Bihar, Shamael Nabi, ex-minister and Kamaluz Zafar, patron of Urdu Tehreek.
On the occasion, Anwarul Hasan’s book Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu Vaishali ki Khidmaat will be launched.
Urdu Bachao Conference will be held at Community Hall, Haroon Nagar Sector 2, Phulwari Sharif, Patna.
