Panaji : Accusing Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and assembly Speaker Pratapsingh Rane of keeping the public accounts committee (PAC) report on illegal mining under wraps, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday said it will come out with its own report on the issue.
The party said its own report was likely to indict Kamat, Rane and several other ministers and functionaries of the ruling Congress.
Leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar of BJP said that desperate attempts by Rane and Kamat to keep the PAC report on illegal mining under cover would be of no help as his party’s report would be out in a week.
“The report will be a lot more detailed, powerful and specific than the PAC report. It will be a lot more revealing,” said the BJP leader.
Parrikar was dramatically replaced as the chairman of the Goa legislative assembly’s PAC Friday, two days after he submitted a damning report on illegal mining.
The speaker refused to table the report in the house, claiming he needed time to read it.
Parrikar claimed that Rane himself was involved in giving permission to illegal mines in Goa, when he was the chief minister in 2005. He said Rane was interested in ensuring that the PAC report did not see the light of day.
“The assets of Digambar (Kamat), Rane, Vishwajeet Rane (health minister and speaker’s son), Subhash Shirodkar (chief of Goa pradesh Congress committee), Joaquim Alemao (legislator), Home Minister Ravi Naik and his son Roy Naik must be probed. The clues to Goa’s Rs.25,000 crore mining scam lie there,” Parrikar said.
The state executive committee of the BJP also passed a political resolution demanding the resignation of Kamat for his alleged involvement in the illegal mining scam and a Central Bureau of Investigation probe to nail the politician-bureaucrat-mining mafia nexus.
