Poland’s ruling party leads in polls

By IANS/RIA Novosti,

Warsaw : Poland’s ruling center-right Civic Platform is leading in the parliamentary election with 39.6 percent of the votes, while its main rival, former premier Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s conservative-nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party is gaining only 30.1 percent, the results of an exit-poll showed Sunday.

According to the latest opinion poll conducted by TNS-OBOP, the gap between Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s Civic Platform and Kaczynski’s Law and Justice is currently about nine percent.

The Civic Platform, which has pledged to focus on economic reform and closer ties with the European Union, may become the first party ever to win two consecutive terms since the collapse of communism in 1989.
