Ralegan-Siddhi (Maharashtra) : Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare Sunday began an indefinite ‘maun vrat’ or vow of silence at his village here, an aide said.
“Anna began his ‘maun vrat’ in the morning. He will continue to undertake his daily chores and shall communicate in writing if required,” the aide told IANS.
“He will not speak with anybody for an indefinite period,” the aide said, attributing this to health grounds.
During his ‘maun vrat’, the 74-year-old Hazare will not travel outside Ralegan-Siddhi. He has postponed his five-state tour till after the winter session of parliament, usually held in November-December.
It is not known when Hazare will travel to Pakistan. He had announced the visit last month.
Hazare’s ‘maun vrat’ comes barely four days after the attack on his aide and Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan.
Another Hazare aide, Arvind Kejriwal, claimed that the anti-corruption crusaders were getting threats.
