Karun’s hopes of Indian GP still hang in balance

By IANS,

New Delhi : It is turning out be an agonising wait for Team Lotus reserve driver Karun Chandhok as he is still unsure of racing in his home Grand Prix next week.

Karun confirmed Sunday that he will be driving in the Friday’s practice session and said his team is yet to take a call on the drivers’ line-up for the Sunday’s race at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida near here.

“I would love to drive but that decision will be made by the team. I have been asked about my participation (in Indian Grand Prix) wherever I go but honestly I don’t have an answer to it,” Karun told IANS on the sidelines of a promotional event Sunday.

“I will be surely driving on Friday as I have been doing in the last three races (Japan, Singapore and Korea). It will be a special feeling to out on the track and I hope I get the nod for the race as well,” said Chandhok.

The speculation on Karun being the second local driver in the Indian Grand Prix besides Hispania’s Narain Karthikeyan have been doing the rounds ever since Team Lotus named him as their test driver in March.

Karun’s only racing opportunity in the current season has come in the German Grand Prix in July with the experienced Jarno Trulli making way for him.

Team Lotus boss Tony Fernandez had earlier said that he would like to see Karun on the starting grid for his home race but the UK based outfit has not taken a call with less than a week left for the historic event.
