New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday said that the government is committed to physical and emotional integration of the northeastern states with the rest of the country.
Addressing the Conference of Governors in Delhi, the prime minister said that governors from some northeastern states complained about discrimination against students from the region when they study in Delhi.
“This has to be seen in the general context of complaints of discriminatory treatment to our citizens from the northeastern states when they choose to live in other parts of the country,” he said.
“Our government stands committed to the physical and emotional integration of our northeastern states into the mainstream of development,” he said.
He also added that Home Minister P. Chidambaram would be asked to look into the matter.
“I would request the home minister to look into these issues again and do whatever more is required to address them,” he added.
