It would take time to improve ties with US: Gilani

By IANS,

Islamabad : Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said it would take some time to improve ties with Washington which, albeit traditionally friendly, dipped sharply early this year.

Gilani said in Multan that Pakistan considers the US an important country and it desired to have good relations with it on the basis of mutual respect and equality, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.

The prime minister admitted that relations with the US had strained after the Raymond Davis incident and the unilateral action US took in Abbottabad.

Ties between Washington and Islamabad were hit after US undercover agent Raymond Davis fatally shot two Pakistanis in Lahore in February.

Bilateral ties were further strained after the May 2 killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad by US commandos.

Gilani said presently the two countries were holding talks but it would take some time to improve relations with the US.
