Hyderabad : Andhra Pradesh legislators loyal to YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy will meet the state governor and the assembly speaker Monday to press for acceptance of their resignations.
After a meeting with Jaganmohan Reddy here Sunday, the legislators decided to call on both Speaker N. Manohar and Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to urge them to accept their resignations to protest the mentioning of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s name by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the first information report (FIR).
Twenty-three legislators and one MP, who also tendered his resignation, attended the meeting here.
Former minister and senior legislators P. Subhash Chandra Bose told reporters that they would explain to both the speaker and the governor the reasons for their resignations.
As many as 28 members of state assembly, including 26 belonging to the Congress, had submitted their resignations to the legislature secretary Aug 22 to protest the mentioning of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s name by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the first information report (FIR).
The CBI, while probing the alleged illegal assets of Jaganmohan Reddy, said in the FIR that he conspired with his father and the then chief minister to favour some companies which made huge investments in his businesses.
The legislators said they would soon launch a “bus yatra” to explain the circumstances in which they had to resign.
Meanwhile, Jagan, as the MP from Kadapa is popularly known, would be in Delhi for two days starting Sunday to meet leaders of non-Congress parties.
The young leader, who quit the Congress last year and floated the YSR Congress party, is expected to brief the leaders of various parties how the Congress was pursuing the policy of witch-hunt by using the CBI.
Jagan is likely to meet Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushma Swaraj, who recently raised the issue of CBI case against Jagan in parliament. She accused the Congress of targeting him and his late father for leaving the party.
He is also expected to meet leaders of the Bahujan Samaj Party, the Nationalist Congress Party, the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India-Marxist and other parties to seek their cooperation in his fight against the Congress.
According to sources close to Jagan, his Delhi visit was aimed at opening channels for his future political career.
