New Ford factory to create 5,000 jobs in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Ford India broke ground Monday for its state-of-the-art integrated vehicle and engine manufacturing facility to come up near here in Sanand at a cost of $1 billion.

The new manufacturing facility, which will go into production in 2014, will create 5,000 jobs and will be able to initially produce 240,000 vehicles and 270,000 engines per year, said Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India.

Joe Hinrichs, president of Ford Asia Pacific and Africa, said: “These new state-of-the-art facilities will help us reach the goal of increasing worldwide sales by nearly 50 percent by mid-decade to 8 million vehicles per year.”

Earlier this year, Ford announced an investment of $72 million by 2012 to expand its powertrain facility in Chennai. Ford?s total investment in India to date is approximately $2 billion.
