NIC concerned over radicalisation of youth: Home secretary

By IANS,

New Delhi : The National Integration Council Saturday expressed concern over “radicalisation of youth” but felt there was “an improvement” in the communal situation in the country.

“Many people said we are facing problem of radicalisation of youth at the NIC meeting. But many people said there is an improvement in the communal situation in the country,” Home Secretary R.K. Singh told reporters.

He said that the radicalisation is of “different kinds”.

“Sometimes people get swayed by a fundamental point of view,” said Singh.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had made a mention of the “radicalisation of youth and the need to address it”.

“We need to identify and address the causes of radicalisation of some of our youth,” the prime minister said at the 15th National Integration Council (NIC) meeting here.

“The problems of terrorism and leftwing extremism constitute two major challenges that our society and polity face today. The terrorist attack in Delhi last Wednesday is a stark reminder to us that there can be no let up in our vigilance,” he said.
