Pakistan vows to continue fight against terror

By IANS,

Islamabad : Pakistan Sunday reaffirmed its determination to fight against terrorism on the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attack.

A statement issued by the foreign ministry said: “As a country that has been severely affected by terrorism, we reaffirm our national resolve to strengthening international cooperation for the elimination of terrorism.”

“Pakistan joins the people of the United States and of the world in honoring the memory of all those who lost their lives on 11 September, as well as those who have been victims of terrorism around the world,” Xinhua quoted the statement as saying.

The statement said it is also appropriate that today the global community renew its commitment to uphold the noble ideals of tolerance, humanity, brotherhood and friendship amongst all people and its determination to work for creating a better world.

Pakistan has not officially organized any function to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Sep 11 attacks. The US embassy in Islamabad organized a function Friday where the US embassy staff remembered those killed in the attacks.

Pakistan had joined the US-led international coalition shortly after the 9/11 attacks and supported the US military operation against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Taliban militants had launched a bloody campaign against Pakistani forces when they launched operations in the tribal regions against Al Qaida and Taliban, who had fled Afghanistan due to the US military operation.

Pakistani leaders said that the country has lost 35,000 people and suffered nearly $65 billion in the war on terror over the past 10 years.
