Islamabad : There are over 18,000 registered madrassas for men spread across Pakistan, a minister said.
The National Assembly was informed that Multan has 1,144 madrassas, followed by Lahore which has 1,110 seminaries.
Pakistan has a population of over 170 million.
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah said that there were 18,352 religious schools for men in the country, reported Dawn.
Among the provinces, Punjab has the largest number of madrassas – 12,903.
Shah said the government had disbursed Rs.296.7 million among the registered madrassas.
The government wants to bring all madrassas under one regulatory authority.
