MLA’s driver escapes with vehicle, AK-47

By IANS,

Raipur : Chhattisgarh police have failed to trace a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker’s driver who escaped on Sunday with his private vehicle and an AK-47 belonging to the bodyguard, sources said Wednesday.

Officials here at the police headquarters in Raipur said that Avinash Bhadoria Sunday escaped with a car of Bhima Mandawi, legislator from the Maoist-affected Dantewada constituency and an AK-47 lying in the Bolero vehicle. Officials say the driver is possibly hiding somewhere in Bastar region.

“The driver has a AK-47, it’s a big headache for police because this is very serious situation when an accountable person is holding a deadly weapon illegally, there are some reports coming in that he is trying to terrorise a few persons to extort money,” police sources added.

The police headquarters have alerted district police chiefs mainly of Bastar region’s five districts to make special efforts to arrest the absconding driver and recover the weapon.

Police say the driver had called up the legislator Wednesday morning and informed that he had left his Bolero vehicle in Dhamtari district but later it was found that he had fooled the legislator.
