Pakistan can’t develop drone technology on its own

Islamabad : Pakistan right now does not have the capability to develop drone technology indigenously, a minister said.

Minister for Defence Production Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said in a written reply in the Senate that developed countries were unwilling to share drone technology with the developing countries.

He said Pakistan currently did not have the capacity to develop the technology indigenously, reported Dawn.

It was pointed out that the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and an Italian firm were co-producing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).

The minister said eight UAVs were assembled in the first phase and it were given to the Pakistan Air Force. He added it were being used for surveillance.

US drones have been used to carry out strikes against terrorists in Pakistan’s northwest.
