Everyone wants peaceful Kashmir: Pakistani leader

By IANS,

Srinagar : Visiting former Pakistani Kashmir prime minister Sultan Mehmood Chaudary Wednesday said he discussed a host of issues with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah earlier this week and that everyone desired a solution to the Kashmir problem.

Talking to reporters at a hotel here, Chaudary said: “Yes, I had a chance meeting with the chief minister, during which I discussed cross-LOC (Line of Control) trade, various CBMs (confidence building measures) between India and Pakistan and also brought up the issue of unmarked graves during our discussions.”

He had earlier denied having discussed politics with Omar Abdullah, whom he met at a friend’s place here Monday.

“I have met many leaders here, including the separatists. Everybody has his own opinion about the solution to the Kashmir problem, but all of them have a common opinion that there has to be an early and expeditious solution,” he said.

He also revealed that he has been invited to speak at the US House of Representatives, the House of Commons in Britain and the Norwegian parliament.

“I shall be talking about an early and expeditious solution to the Kashmir problem during my international addresses,” he said.

Sultan Mehmood Chaudary was the prime minister of Pakistan-administered Kashmir from 1996 to 2001. He is presently a senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) there.

He is the first leader of Pakistani Kashmir to visit the state since 1947.
