Bus accident sparks protest from Telangana groups

By IANS,

Hyderabad : The death of a person here in an accident involving a bus of Road Transport Corporation (RTC) triggered tension Wednesday with Telangana groups blaming the government for the mishap.

Police arrested Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) legislator Harish Rao and his followers when they tried to lay siege to Bus Bhavan, the RTC head office, protesting against the move to hire private drivers in place of its striking employees.

An auto driver died when the RTC bus hit the vehicle at Yousufguda. Telangana activists alleged that the driver hired by RTC lost control of the bus.

Blaming the government, Harish Rao and others staged a protest on the road. “The government is using the services of inexperienced drivers from other regions to operate the buses in Telangana.”

Rao had a heated argument with state minister D. Nagender at the site. The minister assured compensation and a job to the family of the deceased.

RTC employees in Telangana are on strike for the last three days to demand a separate Telangana state. The management is operating some buses in Hyderabad with the help of private drivers.
