Activists march in support of Jan Lokpal

Lucknow: Right to Information (RTI) activists here Saturday embarked on a 500-km march through rural ares of Uttar Pradesh to make people aware of the Jan Lokpal bill.

As many as 200 people from various walks of life participated in the Sarvodaya Yatra that is being led by 15 activists of social organisation ‘Gaon, Gati aur Hum’.

“We will traverse hundreds of villages of Uttar Pradesh in order to make the rural populace aware the need and the importance of the Jan Lokpal bill,” RTI activist Satya Vrat told reporters here.

“We would try to co-relate the problems faced by with villagers with the provisions made in the Jan Lokpal bill in order to counter them. We would also hold street plays to make the villagers, particularly the illiterate, aware of the benefits of the stronger version of the ant-graft law,” he added.

“As we would be travelling by foot, we have not fixed any deadline for concluding the march, whose final destination will be Kushinagar,” he added.
