Lucknow: Continuing its ‘Operation Clean’, the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) suspended its MLA Haji Yaqoob Qureishi on Monday. Qureishi represents Meerut city in Vidhan Sabha.

The party has attributed some controversial statement by Haji Yaqoob Qureshi allegedly against Sikh community recently during inauguration of an abattoir. Qureshi has considerable clout among Muslims in western region of the state. He had won the 2007 assembly elections on his own party United Democratic Front (UDF) but later merged it with BSP.

Qureshi was earlier a minister during SP regime and later joined BSP before forming his own party. Always in news for his utterances, Qureshi even announced a reward over the head of Denmark cartoonist in the row over Holy Prophet’s picture.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued by the state Chief of BSP and cabinet minister Swami Prasad Maurya, Qureshi has been suspended for his controversial remarks against Sikhs as BSP respects all religions and there is no room for such people. Qureshi also has been barred from attending any party function organized by BSP at any level.
