India, Bangladesh hold border talks

Dhaka: Indian and Bangladeshi border troops Monday began a five-day meeting in Dhaka, where they stressed the need to boost cooperation between the paramilitary forces of the two neighbouring countries, an official said.

A 21-member Indian side, led by Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Raman Srivastava reached Dhaka Sunday to attend the talks, Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) spokesman Muhammad Mohshin Reza was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

For Bangladesh, BGB Director General Anwar Hussain is leading a 23-member delegation.

Issues such as killing of unarmed Bangladeshi nationals along the border, unauthorised crossing of the border, allegations of abducting and detaining Bangladeshis by the BSF, illicit drug trade, and fencing of the international border would be discussed, a BGB statement said.

The meeting will end Sep 30.

The BSF and the BGB man a 4,096-km-long border.
