New Delhi : Launching a scathing attack on the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday said the 2G issue is not the internal matter of the party as it deals with a huge loss caused to the public exchequer.
“It is not an internal matter of the Congress party that efforts are being made for two senior ministers to arrive at a patchwork solution with intervention of the party chief and then to suggest that issue of the crisis is over. It not an internal matter of the Congress party…. it deals with the public exchequer and public revenue and loss caused to country,” party leader Arun Jaitley said.
Speaking to women journalists at Indian Women Press Corps (IWPC), he said that it would be better if the contents of the documents, namely that loss has been caused to public revenue by allotting spectrum in 2008 at 2001 prices, be made public.
“If the then finance minister and finance ministry were vigilant and careful, it would have been averted and it would be better that Congress party spokesperson answer that question,” he added.
Controversy has risen over a recent note from the finance ministry to the Prime Minister’s office saying that Home Minister P. Chidambaram, who was finance minister in 2008, could have stopped the 2G spectrum scam in 2008. The note was obtained by a Right to Information (RTI) activist.
