Islamabad : A leader of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was among seven people killed Monday in violence in Karachi.
The clashes erupted after the killing of a gangster by police Sunday.
Local residents and police fought with each other, Geo TV reported.
Hassan Soomro, vice president of PPP in Lyari, was killed at Aath Chowk. Six others also died in the violence, while nine people were injured.
The situation remained tense in the area Monday and police had to resort to tear gas shelling. Shopkeepers were forced to shut shops.
