Rights panel plans open hearing in Odisha

By IANS,

New Delhi : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said Wednesday it will hold an open public hearing at Puri April 9 on various issues concerning the scheduled castes in Odisha.

“The victim or human rights defender can voice their grievances and outline the problems they face in seeking justice from government agencies in the open hearing,” said the NHRC spokesperson.

The commission added that idea of open hearing came after the recommendation made by K.B. Saxena, a retired bureaucrat.

The commission added that it would be the first public engagement of a team from the commission, headed by Satyabrata Pal with the chief secretary and his colleagues.
