New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Wednesday reserved till April 25 its order on a petition challenging the government’s decision to recruit an additional 1,400 Indian Police Service officers through a special examination.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and R.S. Endlaw reserved the verdict after the counsel appearing for a petitioner NGO and the government concluded their arguments.
NGO Zakat Foundation of India alleged that despite serious objections from the Union Public Service Commission, which conducts civil services examinations, the home ministry decided to conduct the limited competitive examination annually.
The proposed exam violated the constitutional right to equality of opportunity in public employment guaranteed under Article 16 of the constitution, said the petition.
