London: Former Royal Navy commando Robert Mitchell holds a bullet that was stuck in his leg for 40 years – and he never knew it was there, The Sun reported.
Doctors found the inch-long steel round as Robert, 63, had a routine hernia operation.
The grandad from Dartmouth, Devon, had a nagging pain in his groin for years but did not know why. He believes he may have been shot without realising after being hit by a mortar during covert operations in Vietnam in 1971.
Now the hero – awarded a Distinguished Service Medal for his work in the 1970s – wears it on a chain, the newspaper said Saturday.
