Islamabad : Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who was convicted Thursday for contempt of court, described the ruling as inappropriate.
Gilani told Geo News that verdict was inappropriate.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan said the verdict will hurt democracy in Pakistan.
“The country cannot afford any adventurism. PPP (Pakistan Peoples Party) has always been victimised,” she was quoted as saying.
Soon after the verdict, Zardari convened a meeting at the presidency in the afternoon.
Gilani was convicted for contempt of court by the Supreme Court for refusing to write to the Swiss authorities to reopen a corruption case against President Asif Ali Zardari. He received a symbolic 30-second sentence.
