Government moots women’s helpline in 12th Plan

By IANS,

New Delhi : The central government is planning to launch a women’s helpline number under the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17), the Rajya Sabha was informed Thursday.

“The working group on women’s agency and empowerment for the 12th Five Year Plan had recommended setting up a women’s helpline. However, a decision on launching this has not been taken by the government,” Krishna Tirath, minister for women and child development, told the upper house in a written reply to a question.

“As such, it is premature to describe the contours of the women’s helpline and the date when this will be launched,” Tirath added on the plan whose allocation will be made from the 12th Plan.

While there are different helpline numbers for women run by state, there is no central helpline number for the protection of women.
