World Bank gives Senegal $55 mn to tackle flood

By IANS,

Dakar: The World Bank and Senegal have signed an agreement for $55 million which the west African nation will use to address the challenges arising from floods, Xinhua reported.

The money will be used to fund a project to control rainwater and adaptation to climatic changes.

Senegal’s Budget Minister Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo said the project targets 1.2 million people living between Pikine and Guediawaye, including 600,000 residents in flooded zones.

Since 2005, Senegal has experienced a cycle of flooding in Dakar and nearby areas.
