Shimla : The monsoon session of Himachal Pradesh assembly began Monday on a stormy note with the Congress staging a walkout, demanding a probe into the ‘chargesheet’ submitted by it against the BJP government, which include graft charges against the chief minister.
Immediately after the obituary references of three members, Leader of Opposition Vidya Stokes stood up and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the charges.
When Speaker Tulsi Ram didn’t allow the issue to be raised, saying that no notice has been given, the Congress members started raising slogans.
The treasury benches also raised counter-slogans and accused the Congress of running away from the debate.
As the speaker proceeded with the business listed for the day, the Congress lawmakers staged a walkout from the house.
Condemning the walkout, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ravinder Ravi said the opposition was a divided house and had no common man’s issue to pin down the government.
The Congress gave a “chargesheet” to President Pranab Mukherjee Aug 22 against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the hill state and demanded an inquiry against it.
In the “chargesheet”, the Congress accused Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal of extending favours to his son Anurag Thakur, a BJP MP, and the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) controlled by him.
The Congress alleged that the government has extended favours to infrastructure group Jaiprakash Associates Ltd. and private builders in setting up projects.
