Reshuffle to ease work of overburdened ministers: Dikshit

By IANS,

New Delhi : A day after reshuffling portfolios of her ministers, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Tuesday said the step was taken to ease the pressure of some overburdened ministers and “infuse a little enthusiasm” in their work.

“This step was taken to rationalise the work of ministers as some were overburdened and some had light work,” Dikshit told reporters at a press conference here.

“We wanted to infuse a little enthusiasm in the work of the cabinet ministers,” she said.

Dikshit Monday reshuffled portfolios, divesting the senior most minister A.K. Walia of his two major departments – urban development and revenue.

While the measure came as a blow to Walia who worked for the regularisation of 900 colonies, his two departments have been awarded to Arvinder Singh Lovely, considered a Dikshit loyalist.

The transport department, held by Lovely, has been given to Ramakant Goswami, who is another Dikshit supporter, while Family and Social Welfare Minister Kiran Walia gets education from Lovely.

The industries and labour departments, which were under Goswami, have been given to Power Minister Haroon Yusuf while Walia retains the health and flood and irrigation departments.

Public Works Department minister Raj Kumar Chauhan has been given the additional portfolio of development.

Dikshit had last reshuffled portfolios in February 2011 in which she had dropped senior minister Mangat Ram Singhal and brought Goswami in.
