New Delhi: A 45-year-old deputy commandant of the paramilitary Assam Rifles has been arrested here for running a fake job racket promising jobs in the Indian Army and the union health ministry, police said Thursday.

“Accused Kamdev Das, absconding for the past one year, was arrested Thursday near Saket court in south Delhi,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Railways) S.B.S. Tyagi.

The accused, who hails from Jharkhand, was running the racket with the help of associates Archana Sinha and Ravinder Chauhan. Both his aides were arrested last year and 21 fake seals and stamps of Assam Rifles and health ministry along with 200 provisional appointment letters were recovered.

They used to operate in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalya and Manipur.

The agents used to collect Rs.25,000-1 lakh as advance from job seekers.

Kamdev completed MBBS from Darbhanga Medical College in 1995 and joined Indian Railways on contract basis. He was appointed a medical officer in the rank of assistant commandant in Assam Rifles in 2003 and was promoted to deputy commandant in 2007.
